Performance with voice and original sensors
These are trials to connect a sound processing techniques with a physical gesture that is accompanied with utterance. The gesture is a kind of modulator for the voice in a voice performance. In these pieces, gestures are real modulator. All sounds are sampled by real-time without any pre-recorded sounds, Audience see all musical process clearly. These systems work for not only solo performance but also improvisation.

portrait solo performance with voice, computer and self-made instruments
Based on free vocalization, he uses real-time signal processing by max/MSP program running on laptop computer and self-made instruments. Almost sounds made by voice and self-made instrument are processed in an unpredictable way. He never uses any pre-recorded sound materials. He explores the relationship between controllable and uncontrollable element on the physical existence and technology. Sometimes he uses live-video camera to emphasis the visual elements of his performance. In some case, the relationship between sound and visual is turned over.

sound poetry
He regards sound poetry as one of his tradition. He performed Kurt Schwitters's "Ursonate" as Japan premiere. And he is digging up little-known tradition of Japanese sound poetry as NIIKUNI Seiichi (1925-1977; the most important concrete poet in Japan) and Hide KINOSHITA (futurist painter, his trial in 1924 is the first sound poetry in Japan). Also he performs the works of living artists as NAKAZAWA Hideki (visual artist) and HAGA Toru (multi-disciplinary artist, his sound poetry has very calm and tender texture). In ADACHI's own sound poetry, he destructs and restructures meaningful words.

ensemble by non-professional musicians
His first trial in this category is Minna-no-uta (song for everyone) for more than 5 public subscribed voice performers with headphones and 1 turntable player. And through the experience of Adachi Tomomi Royal Chorus (choir with 6-8 voice performers, but some of them are professional), He is developing musical work with amateur, student and another discipline artists. In 2003, He worked 1 week with 10 junior high school students at Kobe-city to compose 30 min. composition by many instruments and voices. And he collaborated with dance company "Kim Itoh + the Glorious Future" to perform conducted voice improvisations by 40 dancers.

single channel video work
He started to use the live video camera to emphasis visual element for his performance in 2003. He made original video mixer and video effecter which interfere in analogue video signal directly. Finally he built a kind of video synthesizer is based with video feedback system to create abstract colorful images by real time. In 2004 he made 2 fixed video works as the development of these experiments. These works was selected and screening by some European film & video festivals.

video/sound installation
ADACHI build "kinetic" video and sound installation. As same as his performance, He doesn't use any pre-recorded video or sound material in installatons. Video images and sounds are generated in real time by motions of material (like video camera or microphone) with low-tech electronics.

-movie (QuickTime)-
"Three Duster Dancers"(2005) 4.5MB
This is a kinetic video installation consists of the suspended three dusters with video cameras, electric motors and propellers. They spin and fly in unpredictable way, sometimes in unison. Audience sees their dance and the vision from them through three video monitors on the floor. The generated video image is a modulated environment that audiences exist.

"Two Snails and One Pig"(2005) 3.0MB
Kinetic video/sound installation; two snail robots follow 2 same black line drawings on the floor. One snail has a wireless microphone. Another has a wireless camera. The radio on the side of a drawing receives the signal from microphone and also the TV monitor receives the signal from camera. As a result, radio makes a feedback sound melody follows the natural overtone and TV generates abstract video image. Sound and image are equivalent for the drawing. And 1 pig behaves sarcastically on the wall.

visual work
He regards his visual works as music without sound and time element. Visual is the medium to deal with some concepts of music in a static way for him.

"The theme of "pig with mic," 10 variations and 5 enlargements"(2003)
This work deals with the concept of theme and variation in music. Also the concept is related to the serialism and the counterpoint. These series of digital images was made by unusual transformation of digital data. The image at the upper left is original theme (it is the fragments of another work) The digital data of this image was operated as text data. By using text editor, some letter of the data was transposed to other letters in systematic way. These processes are perfectly mathematical but the consequential image is unforeseen. These processes generated the images on the first horizontal row. The images on the vertical lines were enlargements of a part of images on the upper row. This selection on the enlargement process was intuitive. An enlargement is one of the techniques of counterpoint.

4 movements for 1 player and some instruments (2003)
First movement
Second movement
Third movement
Fourth movement
This series is a sculptur-ize of the concept of harmony and the musical performance. In this exhibition, each movement had 5 hours duration without any changes and "movement". It needed 4 days to perform all movements.
