Adachi Tomomi Royal Chorus "nu" (naya records naya-0002) 2001
Adachi Tomomi Royal Chorus was organized by ADACHI Tomomi in 1997. Its name is just a joke. The first public appearance was avant-garde music festival "The 2nd Music Merge Festival" organized by OTOMO Yoshihide and others in Tokyo. The members have various backgrounds as film director, actor, jazz singer and punk-rock vocalist. The music of the group is very unique because they don't have any "harmony" though by using of voice which everyone have. The early document was broadcasted on TV and some critics have regarded them as the new music style.
The Adachi's compositions that occupy the major part of this album are unique eclectic music made by using freely every expanded voice techniques and the aspects of punk, minimal music, techno, contemporary music and ethnic music. The aggressive noise in "YUMIKO", the cluster of overtone singing in "GARDEN BALSAM" and eccentric odd rhythm in "YOIKO" and so on, there are many points you should pay attention, it is not only experimental but also pop and humorous which you could imagine through the title.
@
As works by other members, very short and funny songs by HURUSAWA Takeshi who is film-director and also assistant director of famous film maker KUROSAWA Kiyoshi, a verbal sound work by FUKUI Tomoko, composer whose other work performed in European contemporary music scene by Ardditti Quartet and so on.
As works by other people, "IROSESU" by TAKAHASHI Yuji who is the most important composer of the first generation of Japanese avant-garde music and also collaborator and pupil of XENAKIS. "NUMERAL POETRY" by NAKAZAWA Hideki, radical conceptual artist. "TAG ETC." by HAGA Toru, poet and photographer. "NEWSPAPER" is the post-modernistic work by this albumÕs producer WONO Satoru who is composer, arranger, DJ, and one of the most important people in Japanese Avant-pop music scene.
So many talents are involved in this album dedicated to "voice". Through this album, you can see the pop document of chaotic aspect of various chaotic music in Tokyo beyond genre and generation.
